For over two decades, the estate was guided by the late Peter Fraser, a winemaker and futurist whose influence on the region cannot be overstated. Fraser pursued purity and finesse over flash, crafting wines that hum with energy and a deep sense of place. His pioneering work with amphorae, ceramic eggs and extended maceration was never about trend-chasing; it was an honest, granular pursuit of texture and transparency. Icons like the High Sands Grenache and the Ovitelli suite stand as touchstones for a new generation of Australian fine wine and remain a lasting tribute to his genius.
In the vineyard, Head of Viticulture Michael Lane continues the exacting work they built together. Lane’s stewardship is rooted in organic and biodynamic viticulture, treating the 170-hectare estate with an obsessive attention to soil health and biodiversity. Every block and every row is managed with patience, resulting in fruit that is pristine, balanced and quietly powerful.
Together, Fraser and Lane cultivated something profound. They reshaped the possibilities of warm-climate viticulture, giving Mediterranean varieties a new home and stripping McLaren Vale of its old clichés.
